SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE;

  • Knowledge of corporate documents (name, purpose, format); types of corporate transactions (mergers, acquisitions, tender offers (hostile and friendly), IPOs, LBOs, securities offerings, etc.); transaction sequences and what is involved in each phase (pre-transaction research, negotiating sessions, Securities and Exchange Commission filings, closings and post-closing activities); and SEC filing rules and EDGAR filings;

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;

  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints;

  • Ability to maintain working knowledge of Firm’s practice areas and procedures associated with each practice area;

  • Ability to consistently evaluate and upgrade practice support service and technology;

Responsibilities

  • Legal cite checking, shepardizing (Westlaw, Lexis)

  • Work with Firm’s Databases in  (Relativity, Concordance, etc)

  • Manage technical logistics for depositions (remote hookups, electronic transcripts, videography, synchronization)

  • Manage preparation of witness & subject files

  • Prepares pretrial documents, and sets up and manages trial offices and trial support

  • Supervises legal staff, Obtains and supervises support from Firm departments (e.g. Litigation Support, Graphics Services, Purchasing, Trial Support Services) Manage relationships with supporting vendors (graphics, court reporters, trial support, hotels, etc.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 1 to 3+ years of complex IP litigation experience

  • Prior involvement in large discovery, creating and managing databases and imaging systems, preparing for trials in Federal court, and managing trial support

  • Must have experience with a range of litigation support applications.

  • Preferred experience with out-of-town trial offices for cases that have gone to verdict.

  • Additional qualifications include excellent analytical and organizational abilities, solid communication and management skills, creativity and initiative.

  • Flexibility for well-paid travel and well-paid overtime required

Bankruptcy Paralegal

New York, NY – Midtown Manhattan

Summary: The successful candidate should be well-organized and detail oriented with the ability to manage simultaneous projects. Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written, are key requirements. As a Bankruptcy Paralegal, you should be familiar with ECF, Best Case Bankruptcy, Westlaw, and other software applications used to support the department. Extensive knowledge of federal court systems, local rules, Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure, Bankruptcy Code and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Drafting Petitions, Schedules, SOFA, Proofs of Claim and other official bankruptcy forms.

  • Filing documents electronically within the Federal Courts, specifically with both the U.S. Bankruptcy and the U.S District Courts.

  • Research regarding bankruptcy dockets, recent filings, court decisions, and news about corporate insolvencies.

  • Calendaring of critical dates related to bankruptcy cases, adversary proceedings and related litigation.

  • Preparation of hearing binders and related materials.

  • Drafting Notices of Hearing; Pro Hac Vice Applications, Fee Applications, Retention Applications and various forms of other bankruptcy-related pleadings.

  • Researching precedent for forms of substantive and non-substantive pleadings.

  • Assisting with the retention process.

 

Required Skills

  • A min of 3-4 years of related bankruptcy paralegal experience

  • General knowledge of Chapter 11 corporate reorganizations and liquidation proceedings.

  • Extensive knowledge of federal court systems, local rules and practices, Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure, Bankruptcy Code and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure

  • Expertise in CM/ECF and PACER filing system.

  • Ensure expertise in technology relevant to the position, including Best Case Bankruptcy; proactively use most current technology to further teamwork, client service, and efficiency.

  • Proficient in MS Word and MS Excel.

  • Strong sense of accountability, taking ownership over projects and responsibilities and resolving issues proactively.

  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills.

  • Excellent teamwork skills and a strong client service orientation.
